In my humble opinion, what we need to help our beloved machine to be again one of the bests in the world is to be creative, to provide more and more commercial (or commercial quality) packages in all the existed topics and even more, to creat new ideas and explore the new usages for our computers.
Some bad years till now have forced us to loose some good situations, but still we are not lost our abilities, the only thing we as Amiga programmers have to do is to make vital existed packages on the other computers (or players and datatypes of all file formats as long as possible), and then find new topics and new plans for software packages.
I have heard that there is an Amiga ported OCR program that was first on UN*X and I am know working on both that program and also a series of Neural Network and Artificial Intelligence algorithms to make our first prototypes of the program.
Our team is still in research phase, to select the best algorithms for a good design of this program, and we are trying to make first prototype to recognize the printed english documents just for start, then we will develope this idea even more for other languages and even handprinted digitized texts, if any demands of such a program.
What we want of all the Amiga community is to support us with Suggestions, Helps, Emails and New Ideas. You can Email us and ask or suggest anything you think will be of use. We always like to know what topics you think is lost from Amiga software and what new ideas you have, that you want to be developed.
Till now, I have received many Emails from many good Amiga enthusiasts and users. Many users asked to be Alpha and Beta testers. I appreciate all of these kind people and when it was ready, I will ask them to test the program's first versions. Also many users have suggested me about the features that program is better to have. I have made a wish-list and will add each necessary feature to the program.
Another important thing is that till now, I have tried to answere all the emails about OCR, but due to the hard work and lack of time for emails, I might be forced to just read them, and answere the most important ones. But be sure I will read your mails very carefully. Again thank you all for your interests to our work.
I am trying to use all of the Amiga hardware and AmigaOS features and the first one is for example, using DataType systems for loading the pictures. I am working on a DataType loader, so any picture format that you have its DataType is usable in the program (OS3.0+ Only). With lots of DataTypes existing on our beloved machine, this means you can load almost any picture format, and even the new formats!!!.
The project is still heavily under developement, but as I involved in the localizing Amiga for the Persian language, the work slowed just for 1 month. Now the localizing process is in a normal situation, as I have made the new IPJ(TM) persian char-set, as well as beta versions of iran.country and farsi.language files. So now I continue with the developement of the OCR program. I also have to say that I have problems with the speed, so I am optimizing the algorithms to get more and acceptable speed in the recognizing process. I also seek for a better COLOR-to-B&W algorithm.
